Although, I'm certain you can mirror them if you want to use your MBA in clamshell mode. So, in turn, you'll have your MBA plus your 2 extra monitors that are extended (not mirrored). Connect your Type A to Type B cable to the adapter, plug into Macbook, and it should automatically detect and extend your displays. Be sure to allow permission to screen record in Privacy settings and then you're good to go. You just need to buy a Type B to Type C (female to male) adapter and download the DisplayLink drivers for Mac. You can still use the Type A to Type B USB cable that comes with the dock station. You can connect your MBA M1 to the dock station to extend to 2 additional monitors.
I struggled to find a viable way to connect my MBA without breaking the bank and I am embarrassed at the amount of time I spent trying to fix this when the solution was so simple. I got a Macbook Air (2020, M1 chip) and I already had the Dell D3100 dock station with 2 Asus VP28Us. I wanted to give my two cents in case it helps anyone.
